Well, I've begun a blog, and as Dickens would say, but in the present tense "It is the best of times; it is the worst of times.". That statement perfectly describes the human condition as it has always been. For some life is great, and for some life is down right dirty. That being spoken in the generic sense, sometimes people in each environmental and sociological position experience the opposite, and the best of times become the worst, and the worst become the best.
Not only is this true for basic conditions or states of being, Dickens's genius statement at the beginning of A Tale of Two Cities reflects my mercurial views of human nature. At times I have full faith in the people. The people cannot be wrong, for they are the masses of the most intelligent species on Earth. It is those in power that are corrupt and dangerous, but the people know what is right for nature. Other times I lose my faith. I see famine (a mostly human invention), genocide, war, bullying, rejection of truth, and I cannot help but feel, beyond my own biological prejudices, that humanity is a plague upon a naturally symbiotic world. The best of times are more enjoyable, but I often fear the worst of times is the truth.
It is late, and I must wake early, so it is off to bed now for me. But I will be back soon with more of where that came from. You know, just philosophizing and reflecting upon life's eternal problems.
